Who needs an environmental badge in Austria?
The environmental sticker (Umwelt-Pickerl, sticker or particulate matter sticker) is mandatory in Austria for the following vehicles:
- light commercial vehicles, fiscal lorries and vans up to 3.5 tonnes (Class N1)
- all heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes (Classes N2 and N3)
Notes:- Motorhomes that are officially registered as such are generally exempt from this regulation. (Classification according to the European definition M1)
- Classification into emission groups is based on the EURO emissions standard.
- The sticker requirement applies regardless of the type of fuel and irrespective of use (private or commercial)
In which regions is the environmental badge mandatory?
- Vienna and surrounding area (Lower Austria)
- A1 West Motorway (between Enns Ost and Haid junction, Upper Austria)
- A12 Inntal motorway (between Kufstein and Innsbruck/Zirl, Tyrol)
- Entire low emission zone in Burgenland, as well as Graz and surrounding area
- in regions covered by the Air Pollution Control Act (IG-L)
How long is the environmental sticker valid?
- The environmental sticker is valid for the lifetime of the vehicle.
- If the windscreen of the vehicle is replaced, a new sticker must be ordered from the online shop at a cost.
- Stick the sticker on the inside of your windscreen, preferably in the lower right-hand corner on the passenger side.
- The document "IG-Luft sticker allocation", which you will receive together with the sticker, must be printed out and carried in the vehicle. Only then is the affixed sticker valid.

How much does an emissions sticker cost in Austria?
An Austrian environmental sticker costs 36,00 € plus VAT and shipping costs. The shipping costs per order are €3.29 (for a maximum of 20 environmental stickers). For orders exceeding this amount, an additional €3.29 per 20 environmental stickers will be charged. A chargeable express service is available.
What penalties can I expect in the event of an offence?
Violations of the environmental sticker requirement are punishable by fines of up to €2,180.
